The original voice of Moana returns to Motunui for Disney's highly anticipated sequel! The CEO of the Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger, surprised all fans at the beginning of the month when he announced that Moana 2 was already in the works, complete with the first images and that it would be released in cinemas as early as November. However, it needed to be made clear who would be in the cast.
According to Deadline, Auli'i Cravalho will return to voice the protagonist Moana. The site's report suggested that she and Dwayne Johnson, who voiced Maui in the first film, were both in talks with Disney about returning, but things hadn't been made official when Moana 2 was announced. Now they should be. Disney had initially planned to continue the story of Moana as a streaming series on Disney+. However, when the project began to take shape and the original film's popularity increased dramatically, Disney decided to turn the series into a feature film for cinemas.
The official synopsis for the sequel reveals: “After receiving an unexpected call from her ancestors, Moana must journey to the distant seas of Moana and into dangerous, forgotten waters for an adventure unlike anything she has ever faced.” Directed by Dave Derrick Jr. with music by Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa'i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina, Moana 2 will arrive in theaters on November 28, 2024.
