Julia Roberts and director Luca Guadagnino team up for After the Hunt, a thriller produced by Amazon MGM. According to the official synopsis, the film follows Roberts as a college professor who "finds herself at a personal and professional crossroads when a model student makes an accusation against one of her colleagues." As she navigates the difficult situation, “a dark secret from her past threatens to come to light.” Other cast members will be announced later.
Debut screenwriter Nora Garrett wrote the screenplay and will executive produce alongside Karen Lunder for Imagine Entertainment. Imagine Entertainment executives Brian Grazer and Allan Mandelbaum are producing the film alongside Guadagnino on behalf of his company Frenesy.
Guadagnino, the Oscar-nominated director of Call Me by Your Name, will soon be in theaters with the upcoming tennis love triangle drama, Challengers. Guadagnino is busy with several projects, including directing Separate Rooms, an adaptation of the novel by the Italian author Pier Vittorio Tondelli. Challengers star Josh O'Connor is in talks to lead the cast of Separate Rooms, a nostalgic drama about an Italian writer mourning the loss of his boyfriend.
Challengers, which also stars Zendaya and Mike Faist, will be released on April 26. His Mexico-set romantic drama “Queer,” starring Daniel Craig as an American expat who becomes infatuated with a younger man, is expected to premiere at the Venice Film Festival this year. Julia Roberts, who dominated the box office in the '90s with romantic comedies like Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, and My Best Friend's Wedding, recently led the cast of the post-apocalyptic thriller Leave the World Behind on Netflix.
All parties are represented by CAA. Guadagnino is also represented by Range and Goodman Genow. Roberts is represented by Hirsch Wallenstein. Garrett is also repped by Fourth Wall Management and Yorn Levine.
