After taking a detour to the small screen with his TV series, Chucky returns to the world of feature films. In 1988, the original Child's Play film was released, introducing pop culture icon Charles Lee Ray, aka "Chucky," the horror genre's most famous killer doll. The character will return in a series of films, before moving to television with SYFY and USA Network's Chucky series. In a new interview for the Scream Dreams Podcast, creator Don Mancini shared an exciting update on the future of the franchise.
When asked what next projects he has in the works, Mancini revealed that he has started work on a new Chucky film, confirming his plans to bring the character back to the big screen. “I mean, you know, like anyone in this industry, I want to do more things. At this point, though, if it's just Chucky, I totally agree. I have other things I want to do. I'm working on a new pilot. I'm also, actually, in the early stages of working on a new Chucky movie. At this point, my goal is to just keep working.”
While the third season of Chucky is still underway (part two will debut on USA and SYFY on April 10, 2024), no official announcement about a new movie has been made. Mancini teased that a new film could potentially see Chucky head into space, adding to the list of horror franchises that have ventured into the stars after several sequels. Child's Play received two sequels released in 1990 and 1991. The franchise was later rebranded as Chucky, consisting of four films: 1998's Bride of Chucky, 2004's Seed of Chucky, 2013's Curse of Chucky, and 2017's Cult of Chucky A remake of the original film was released in 2019, featuring Mark Hamill as the voice of the doll.
