The Friday the 13th franchise will be brought back to life. It's been more than a decade and a half since the last film from the franchise was released in theaters and fans are ready for the return of Jason Voorhees. Plus, it seems Hollywood executives are too, as Jason Blum has announced plans to reboot the entire film series with the help of director James Wan. Jason Blum's Blumhouse recently took over production of the final three installments of the Halloween franchise. Other famous horror franchises such as The Exorcist were also managed by the well-known studio. And, considering their blockbuster films like The Purge series, it's no surprise that Blum also wants a piece of Friday the 13th, one of the most iconic of the genre.

As for James Wan, his horror film director credits include Saw, Insidious, and The Conjuring, so he would definitely be a great choice for any other horror IP. In fact, his underrated return to '80s horror, Malignant, is a perfect example of what a new Friday the 13th could look like. Of course, that could only happen if Jason Blum actually acquires the rights to the franchise. The producer said, “I would do Friday the 13th,” while he spoke to Collider about what project he'd like to do. But it's not that simple. “It's not a Blumhouse project, but I'm trying to make it one. It's simply an IP that I've always loved.”

He then spoke about the potential involvement of James Wan if this were to happen: “James Wan and Atomic Monster are very passionate about it, and I think we would like them to curate it for us. It would be a lot of fun.” Of course, rights issues are still being worked out. In any case, the franchise won't stop at the big screen. In fact, we're about to get a brand new live-action series titled Crystal Lake from A24 and Peacock. And let's hope that, sooner or later, we will also see a new film!
