Before Justice League hit theaters, there was a viral photo going around showing JK Simmons looking tired at the gym. Actor JK Simmons recently revealed the mystery behind the iconic workout photo that made the rounds ahead of the release of Justice League. Contrary to what many fans assumed, the photo was not related to his role as Jim Gordon in the film.

JK Simmons: for which role did the actor have to change his physical appearance?

According to JK Simmons, the photo was taken during the time he was working on another project called I'm Not Here, directed by his wife. In the film, Simmons played an emaciated character and for the role he had to lose about 35 kilos of weight. After completing that film, he committed to an intense training program at Gold's Gym alongside his friend Aaron Williamson. JK Simmons clarified that the training was unrelated to his role in Zack Snyder's film and that the idea that he was overly "stressed" to adapt to the role had no basis.

He pointed out that Commissioner Gordon wears a trench coat for much of the film, so the character's physical appearance wasn't relevant to the role. Despite this denial, JK Simmons continues to be involved in action projects. The actor voices Omni-Man in the animated series Invincible and will appear as Saint Nick in Red One, alongside Chris Evans and Dwayne Johnson for Amazon Studios. However, JK Simmons' future in the world of superheroes does not include returning to the role of Jim Gordon, at least for now.
