The fourth chapter of the Jumanji saga is still in production; Karen Gillan, protagonist with The Rock of the two previous iterations, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle and Jumanji: The Next Level, reassures fans; given the great commercial success of these two films, a further sequel seemed obvious, but the pandemic and other production stumbles got in the way. Gillan explains it well, interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter: “I know for sure that sooner or later we will do it, even if it is difficult to agree on everyone's commitments, but for us this project is fabulous, and we can't wait; it's just a question of when it will be done, although frankly I don't know the reason for these delays."
Director Jake Kasdan made the project official already in 2020, but since then updates on it have been very scarce; in 2023, Kevin Hart, in an interview with Variety, confirmed that this fourth chapter will be the last of the franchise; Kasdan himself, in an interview with ComicBook in 2021, had instead declared that production on the film would start after the conclusion of work on Red One, another film by him due out in 2024.
Based on a children's book, Jumanji tells the story of two teenagers who enter the world of their favorite board game, having to find a way to free a man long trapped in that magical and dangerous world; the following two films, despite featuring different characters from the original and a renewed setting (now the board game is a video game) act as sequels to the first; the cast of the reboot chapters is made up of Jack Black, The Rock and Kevin Hart.
