An exciting new confirmation comes directly from Marvel Studios: a project dedicated to the superhero Nova is currently in development. Brad Winderbaum, executive in charge of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, revealed details about this project in a recent interview with ComicBook's Phase Zero podcast.
Who is the Marvel superhero, Nova?
Winderbaum confirmed that Marvel Studios is working on a project related to Nova, although he stressed that it is still in an early stage of development and that there are no guarantees yet that it will be completed. However, he expressed his enthusiasm for the character and desire to bring him to the screen. “We love Nova. We are in the early stages of development,” Winderbaum said. “We have a new system behind the scenes at Marvel Studios. We're more like a traditional studio now. We are developing more than we will actually produce. So, there are plans to develop Nova. I love the project too. I love Rich Rider too. I hope it makes it to the screen.”
The character of Nova was created by Marv Wolfman and John Romita Sr. and debuted as the protagonist of the comic book series The Man Called Nova in 1976. Nova boasts superhuman abilities including flight, super strength, and enhanced durability, being part of the Nova Corps, an intergalactic police force. Rumors of a possible Nova-related project have been circulating as early as 2022, with reports indicating development at Disney+. While there are no definitive cast or plot details yet, there have been hints about possible actors, including Xolo MaridueƱa and Ryan Gosling, although the latter has expressed interest in the role of Ghost Rider.
