Owen Wilson will star in a comedy series set in the world of professional golf. The series will be exclusive to the Apple TV+ streaming service, as revealed by Variety. Owen Wilson also serves as an executive producer on the series. The direction is entrusted to Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris.
The series – as yet untitled – comes from writer Jason Keller. Apple has already ordered 10 episodes. According to the official description, Wilson will play Pryce Cahill, “a former professional golfer whose career was prematurely ended 20 years ago. After getting fired from his job at an Indiana sporting goods store, and after his wife abandons him, Pryce bets everything he has on a troubled 17-year-old golf phenom.”
This isn't the first prominent TV role for Owen Wilson. He currently stars in the Marvel-Disney+ series Loki, which released its second season in late 2023. Wilson also lent his voice to the animated series Cars on the Road, reprising his role as Lightning McQueen from the Pixar film Cars. In cinema, Wilson is known for his collaborations with Wes Anderson: The Tennenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, Homecoming, and The Darjeeling. Among his most famous film roles are Zoolander, Wedding Crashers, Starsky & Hutch, and Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris.
This will be the first television series for screenwriter Jason Keller. He recently worked on the screenplay for the 2019 film Ford v. Ferrari. His credits include Escape Plan, Machine Gun Preacher, and Mirror Mirror.
