Leslye Headland teases the plot of The Acolyte and its connections to Andor, The Mandalorian, and the Clone Wars. The Disney+ series The Acolyte is generating great anticipation among Star Wars fans, with director Leslye Headland recently revealing some fascinating details about the plot and references to other media in the saga. The Acolyte is set in the High Republic era, a time before the events of The Phantom Menace. The story follows a former Padawan who, along with his Jedi Master, immerses himself in an investigation into a series of crimes, only to find himself faced with dark forces far more sinister than expected.

Speaking with Collider, Headland stressed that the series will have a narrative structure serialized over eight episodes, similar to the construction of other Star Wars productions such as Andor and The Mandalorian. Describing The Acolyte as a “mystery thriller,” the director highlighted the need to carefully follow each episode to gain crucial information and fully understand the plot. Headland also revealed that The Acolyte will make numerous references to other aspects of the Star Wars universe, including the Clone Wars and the original trilogy. However, he made it clear that there would be no post-Empire or Empire icons, such as Stormtroopers, to keep the story distinct from the main saga.

Additionally, the director explored the portrayal of the Jedi during the High Republic, highlighting the challenge of creating threats formidable enough to test the Jedi at their peak. He also questioned the fate of Force-sensitive individuals outside of the Jedi Order, suggesting the existence of various Force factions and cults beyond the traditional narrative. The cast of The Acolyte boasts notable names such as Amandla Stenberg, Carrie-Anne Moss, Rebecca Henderson, Jodie Turner-Smith, Lee Jung-Jae, Manny Jacinto, Dean-Charles Chapman, and Dafne Keen.
