In her next action film, The Fall Guy, Emily Blunt plays Jody Moreno, a director whose protagonist mysteriously disappears. Here the stuntman played by Ryan Gosling, Colt Seavers, who is also Jody's ex, comes into play to help her solve the case.

In a recent interview with Total Film, the actress revealed that her character is loosely based on Gerwig. “With the warmth and charm, I imagine there's a little Greta in there,” Blunt said. “She was a mix of some other people I had met and drawn inspiration from.” Greta Gerwig has been acclaimed as the highest-grossing female director of all time thanks to her blockbuster Barbie, starring Margot Robbie and Gosling. The film surpassed $1.4 billion at the box office, making history as the first live-action film directed by a solo female to reach the global billion-dollar club.

Kelly McCormick, producing partner and wife of The Fall Guy director David Leitch, explained that Jody's character was changed from makeup artist to director to add more weight to the film. “We transitioned Emily's role from makeup artist to director shortly before giving her a very rough draft,” McCormick said. “We wanted to make it seem like her character had more pressure on her.” Emily Blunt added that they collaborated together to define her character. “We all built it together, because I think, maybe in the original script, she was quite severe, a kind of tough director,” the actress said. “But I think, for me, it's always more interesting to play someone who's in a situation where she's way beyond her capabilities.”
