Mia Goth is about to return as Maxine, or rather, as MaXXXine. The new film, directed by Ti West and produced by the now prestigious film company A24 (Priscilla, Moonlight, Everything Everywhere All at Once), is part of a saga that, starting quietly as a niche phenomenon, has slowly exploded as an already cult film series. It all started in 2022 with the title. Now, MaXXXine concludes the trilogy with a sequel anticipated by an official trailer. In X we see the star Maxine, who has arrived in the rural house of a bizarre couple formed by Howard and Pearl. In particular, Pearl develops an obsessive fixation on Maxine, who reminds her of herself as a young girl (both are played by Goth herself) and tries to eliminate her.
In the prequel Pearl, in fact, the youth of Pearl is told, a young woman who grew up in an abusive environment at the beginning of the twentieth century and who vents her frustration at not being able to become famous by indulging her homicidal madness. Finally in MaXXXine, set in the 1980s, we find the actress from the first film trying to exploit her popularity but when a killer begins to stalk her she will have to fight not only to survive but also to keep her sinister past hidden.
MaXXXine will be released in US theaters on July 5th. In addition to Goth, the cast will also include Kevin Bacon, Bobby Cannavale, Elizabeth Debicki, Moses Sumney, Michelle Monaghan, Lily Collins, Halsey, and Giancarlo Esposito. “It's the biggest story of the three with the highest stakes, Maxine has endured so much to get to this point,” Mia Goth herself declared to Variety: “When we find her in this new world, she is a force to be reckoned with, his adventures will always be quite crazy.”
