Filming on James Gunn's Superman film is underway, but in the meantime, Superman's cousin Supergirl may have found her director. As reported by Deadline, Craig Gillespie, director of I, Tonya, is currently in negotiations to direct Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the next DC film. The Supergirl movie will star House of the Dragon's Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El, Superman's teenage cousin.
This marks the first superhero film directed by Gillespie, but his experience directing a wide range of genres and his talent for creating complex characters suggest he might be an ideal choice for the project. Gillespie is known for directing several successful films, including the indie drama Lars and the Real Girl and the horror remake Fright Night. His most recent work includes the award-winning I, Tonya, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Director. His distinctive style and ability to tackle complex themes make him a promising director for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
The Supergirl film will draw inspiration from the 2021-2022 eight-issue limited series of the same name, written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. This series follows Kara and Krypto the Super-Dog on a space adventure seeking revenge with an alien girl. It will not be connected to the interpretation of Supergirl seen in "The Flash", nor to the CW television series. At the moment, DC has not confirmed the choice of director for Supergirl, so we can only wait for new news.
