The streaming service has renewed the hit Hindi romance show ‘Musafir Cafe‘ for a second season. The show’s first season quickly became popular all over the world. Based on the best-selling novel by Divya Prakash Dubey, the series stars Vikrant Massey. In its first three weeks of release, it garnered over 32 million hours of viewing and ranked in Netflix’s Top 10 Non-English TV lists in 18 countries across Asia, Europe, and North America.

The first season has eight episodes. Massey is Chander, a software engineer who quits his well-paying job to start a cafe in Mussoorie and make a fresh start. There he meets two women who will alter the next phase of his life: Sudha (Vedika Pinto), a determined lawyer who has to balance her professional goals with her family responsibilities; and Preeti (Mahima Makwana), whose quiet devotion becomes one of the few things that remains constant in Chander’s world as it becomes more unstable. It is mostly a love story, but it is also about work stress, changing priorities and adult choices.

There is some talk of Massey, Pinto and Makwana returning for a second season. Sharanya Rajgopal will continue to lead the creative team. The next chapter will continue from where Dubey’s book ended. This gives the writers the opportunity to alter the course of the story.“I’m happy with the response we have received to Musafir Cafe,” Rajgopal said in a statement. We loved the characters in Divya’s book and can’t wait to see where they go from here. When the romance is over and real life starts to take over there is so much to learn.

The renewal is also another sign that Netflix is still willing to put money into Indian original shows that can appeal to people all over the world. While most talk about big action movies and crime thrillers, relationship dramas have quietly become a staple of the streaming service’s South Asian content, especially when they resonate with viewers outside of South Asia.

Filming for season two will begin in late November and will resume in Uttarakhand before moving to other locations. Rajgopal and Dubey will serve as executive producers along with the project’s production partners. The new season is set to begin in late 2027.
